Drawing on deep expertise in estate planning and law practice development, the VP, Learning ensures the quality, relevance, and strategic growth of WealthCounsel's educational and practice development offerings. This position reports to the Chief Content Officer (CCO).</p><p><strong>As a </strong><strong>VP, Learning, </strong><strong>your responsibilities include:</strong></p><ul><li>Provides strategic leadership to the Learning team, including supervising and supporting team members, performance planning and evaluation, determining staffing needs, resolving interdepartmental conflicts, developing annual budgets, and determining training needs.</li><li>In collaboration with the CCO, establishes the strategic direction of WealthCounsel's Learning programs; executes this strategy in continuous collaboration with company leadership and the Operations, Growth, Content, and Finance teams.</li><li>Oversees all programs related to WealthCounsel members’ practice development with a focus on WealthCounsel growth and retention strategies to increase revenue.</li><li>In coordination with the Growth and Membership Experience teams, contributes to WealthCounsel growth and retention initiatives by implementing innovative learning initiatives.</li><li>Engages with members and prospects to assist in determining practice development and substantive legal education needs and priorities.&nbsp;</li><li>Works closely with the Learning team and the Director of Learning Operations to build and deliver a comprehensive annual education plan and education calendar to ensure WealthCounsel consistently delivers relevant substantive and practice development education to members and prospects.</li><li>Coordinates all programming related to education events, including but not limited to Symposium, the Advanced Estate Planning Summit, and the Academy of Special Needs Planners (ASNP) National Conference.</li><li>Responsible for the vision and direction of the Quarterly magazine.</li><li>Oversees the Learning team’s review of all substantive and practice building content submitted by contractors, speakers, instructors, and all other contributors, including marketing pieces from the Marketing and Legal Marketing team.</li><li>Creates product concept proposals and business cases to support the development of new educational offerings, including applying best practices in lifelong learning, monetization of offerings, and innovative delivery of education through new and different media, program length and program focus.</li><li>Actively engages in collecting competitive intelligence to ensure WealthCounsel’s educational programming remains cutting edge and the best value in the market.</li><li>Actively engages with the Legal Content Team to develop and execute overarching strategy and plan to connect WealthCounsel’s software offerings with education.</li><li>Teaches and writes on substantive topics, current developments, and practice building.</li><li>Ensures compliance with industry best practices and company processes and procedures.</li></ul><p><strong>GENERAL LEADERSHIP</strong></p><ul><li>Establishes and communicates strategic direction across all areas of responsibility; executes strategy in collaboration with the CCO and company leadership.</li><li>Communicates department, program, and project performance and process to the CCO through periodic status reports and presentations.</li><li>To ensure educational offerings are supporting WealthCounsel growth and retention goals, develops, implements, and tracks key performance metrics, milestones, specifications, documentation and reporting requirements, and budgets.</li><li>Tracks and analyzes program, project, and process costs across all areas of responsibility.</li><li>Promotes collaboration across departments.</li><li>Maintains current knowledge of trends and technologies in legal education and law practice management.</li><li>Performs other duties as required.</li></ul><p><strong>EXECUTIVE SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:&nbsp;</strong></p><ul><li>Interviews, hires, and trains members of the Learning team.</li><li>Provides constructive and timely performance feedback and evaluations to ensure top-level performance at all levels of the department.</li><li>Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.</li></ul><p><strong>Here’s what you’ll need to be successful in this role:</strong></p><ul><li>Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; Working within the Discovery Trio alongside Product Managers and Engineers, you contribute to the full design process — from research and discovery through design specifications and implementation support. You bring curiosity, growing user empathy, and a commitment to craft, taking increasing ownership of features and product areas as you develop in the role.</p><p>This role is less about producing visual artifacts and more about learning to think like a product designer — understanding user needs, framing problems clearly, and making valuable capabilities accessible and intuitive.</p><p><strong>As a Junior Product Designer, you’ll be responsible for the following:</strong></p><p><strong>Design Thinking &amp; Problem Framing</strong></p><ul><li>Apply structured problem-framing with guidance — articulate the problem a design is solving, not just the solution</li><li>Participate in discovery sessions with the PM and Engineering Lead, contributing a user-centered perspective</li><li>Create wireframes, prototypes, and design documentation that communicate intent and support decision-making</li><li>Learn to distinguish between user requests and underlying user needs</li></ul><p><strong>Design Craft</strong></p><ul><li>Design interaction flows, interface layouts, and components in alignment with the design system</li><li>Deliver designs that account for the full spectrum of states: happy paths, error states, empty states, loading states, and edge cases</li><li>Designs that account for fluid viewport sizes and device types</li><li>Apply design system patterns consistently; contribute to iterative improvement</li></ul><p><strong>User Empathy &amp; Research</strong></p><ul><li>Participate in user research activities (usability tests, interviews, and discovery sessions) with support from senior designers</li><li>Shadow Support troubleshooting sessions and Member Success training sessions to build direct understanding of how attorneys use our products</li><li>Review support tickets and feature requests to identify patterns</li><li>Develop understanding of user needs based on direct observation</li></ul><p><strong>Product Knowledge</strong></p><ul><li>Actively learn your product area — use the product regularly, review support tickets, ask questions about how features connect</li><li>Understand the workflows attorneys perform within your product area</li><li>Collaborate with engineering on implementation feasibility and develop awareness of technical constraints and opportunities</li><li>Review release notes and change logs to understand what's changed and why</li></ul><p><strong>Collaboration &amp; Process</strong></p><ul><li>Participate in design reviews, sprint planning, and cross-functional team rituals</li><li>Incorporate critique feedback effectively and iterate quickly</li><li>Work closely with the Senior Product Designer and Manager to evolve the design system and pattern library</li><li>Communicate design rationale clearly to PMs and Engineers — practice explaining <em>why</em></li></ul><p><strong>Here’s what you’ll need to be successful in this role:</strong></p><p><strong>Required Qualifications</strong></p><ul><li>0–3 years of experience in product design, UX design, or a related role</li><li>Portfolio demonstrating user-centered thinking, interaction design craft, and problem-solving across digital products</li><li>Proficiency in Figma or equivalent modern design and prototyping tools</li><li>Familiarity with UX research methods and willingness to participate in and contribute to research activities</li><li>Strong attention to detail and commitment to design quality</li><li>Curiosity about how products work — technically, commercially, and from the user's perspective</li></ul><p><strong>Preferred Qualifications</strong></p><ul><li>Experience working in an agile or scrum development environment</li><li>Exposure to design systems and component-based design workflows</li><li>Familiarity with accessibility best practices (WCAG)</li><li>Experience working with product management teams</li><li>Understanding of HTML and CSS sufficient to collaborate effectively with front-end developers</li></ul><p><strong>Work Environment and Company Benefits:</strong></p><p>This is a virtual, full-time position.
